Lynn is a writer, ecologist, photographer and artist specialising in the natural world. She has written and edited books, magazines, newspapers and websites, and worked as a TV and radio presenter and producer specialising in the environment.

She has worked for conservation organisations such as English Nature, the Countryside Council for Wales, the Wildlife Trusts, the Woodland Trust, Greenpeace and the British Trust for Ornithology. She has also lectured in ecology, biology and conservation in universities, and conducted poetry and creative writing workshops in schools.

She has a PhD in Biological Sciences (River Ecology) from the University of Essex, a BSc (Hons) in Ecology from the University of East Anglia, and an MA in Writing Nature & Place from the University of Exeter.

Alongside her books and articles, she creates artworks using paint, collage and embroidery, exploring natural patterns and the relationship of wild organisms to their environment. She also writes and conducts workshops and courses in nature writing and poetry, both for adults and children.

Lynn is married to the sculptor Ben Dearnley and they currently live in Bath, Somerset.
